GATE CITY participants present at annual Communities of Inquiry Conference

Congratulations to Jacalyn Lesser (Math, NHSS), Mary Park Oussayef (French, NHSS), Bari Sherman (Math, NHSS), and Sarah Bucken (ELA, NHSN) for providing an outstanding workshop at the annual Communities of Inquiry Conference this past Saturday at the Puritan Backroom in Manchester. The group, represented by members from both cohorts of GATE CITY, presented “Family and Community Outreach: Establishing Genuine Partnerships Between School and Community that Empower Parents”.

They did an excellent job sharing how they planned and implemented community events to reach out to and establish a rapport with parents in their communities. Some examples included: a family library day, a workshop on accessing the Parent Portal, and a conversation about school issues, concerns, and current programs with parents at the Nashua Adult Learning Center. New Hampshire’s Title III State Director, Andrea Somoza-Norton, was in attendance. Thanks to all of you for sharing your excellent work with a wider audience.

  1. This is fantastic!! Would this team of excellent presenters be interested/willing to present this workshop at TESOL in Baltimore next year? Proposals are due June 1. The process is pretty competitive (17% acceptance rate) but “you gotta be in it to win it!” If you are interested, let me know! Wish I had been there.
